The Del Ray Montessori School is a non-profit Montessori School located in the quaint Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, Virginia, we are associated and recognized by AMI/USA (Association Montessori International). Founded in 2011, we serve children ages 18 months through age 12 and their families in the DC metropolitan area.
My journey with The Del Ray Montessori School began nine years ago when I joined as the Office Manager. Before that, my career in Early Childhood Education spanned over two decades, during which I served as both a teacher and then a Director of a large childcare center. Despite my experience, I felt there was more to be explored in the realm of early education, which led me to DRMS and the Montessori philosophy.
From my very first moments here, I was captivated. Observing our classrooms in action, I witnessed firsthand the transformative power of a Montessori education: respect for the child, the fostering of independence, and the deep concentration of engaged learners. It was clear to me that this was the environment every child deserves—one where they are supported and empowered to reach their fullest potential.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of growing professionally within our school community, as I moved into the position of Assistant Head of School in 2019, culminating in my recent appointment as Interim Head of School at the end of the 2023-2024 school year. Alongside our dedicated administration team and talented educators, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to providing a high-fidelity Montessori education within a safe and nurturing environment.
At DRMS, we believe in cultivating classroom communities where empathy, curiosity, and independence flourish. Our approach is grounded in the principles of the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), ensuring that each child receives a personalized, holistic education that meets their academic and emotional needs.
