The Del Ray Montessori School is a non-profit Montessori School located in the quaint Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, Virginia, we are associated and recognized by AMI/USA (Association Montessori International). Founded in 2011, we serve children ages 18 months through age 12 and their families in the DC metropolitan area.
The mission of The Del Ray Montessori School is to create a carefully prepared learning environment that will nurture the spirit of the child, guiding each child along a path toward reaching his or her full potential for learning. We achieve this through:
Providing a safe, stable, and academically stimulating environment for children guided by the principles of the Montessori method of education as supported by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI);
Fostering the child’s innate curiosity and strong desire to learn through the implementation of a curriculum that is scientifically based on the development of the child;
Helping each child develop independence, self-motivation, independent thinking, confidence with character, and a strong sense of community;
Fostering a joyful, lifelong love of learning;
Cultivating parent and community involvement to support the growth and development of children in a collaborative effort with the school.
Our focus everyday is to provide an educational foundation that instills respect, curiosity, and perseverance for every child, creating a love for learning and establishing a foundation for success in preparation for life’s adventures.

Through our expert understanding of child development, observation, connection, and respect for the unique individuals in our care, our educators craft weekly individualized lesson plans that meet each child where they are and show trust in the child’s developing capabilities. This individualized care and attention to detail creates the foundation for a deep love of learning.
Respect, grace and courtesy
Our carefully prepared environments address the age-appropriate intellectual, physical and emotional needs of children that enable the freedom to explore and develop independence. Courtesy and grace are an integral part of our environment, where children grow not just educationally, but emotionally and socially, respecting each individual and understanding their role and connection in our world.
Building community
Every child benefits from a strong parent-school partnership, which includes open communication, trust, collaboration, and accountability. To foster respect, curiosity, and perseverance for each of our children, we offer a variety of parent education experiences to practice Montessori principles in everyday life; consistent two-way communications between parents and teachers/administration; and our teachers are always available to check in about your child’s growth and development.
