The Del Ray Montessori School is a non-profit Montessori School located in the quaint Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, Virginia, we are associated and recognized by AMI/USA (Association Montessori International). Founded in 2011, we serve children ages 18 months through age 12 and their families in the DC metropolitan area.
Why I serve on the Board:
“I wanted to be part of the Del Ray Montessori School because I want to help develop a young school and giving back to the Alexandria community. Also, to support DRMS through committees and development.”
Bonita L. Lea is the former Head of School at Westside Montessori School in Houston, Texas. She left to be closer to her family in Maryland. Before she was a member of the Browne Academy community for 20 years. Bonita has a master’s from the University of Wisconsin and a bachelor’s from Immaculata University. She enjoys visiting classrooms to see the students engaged in many wonderful learning opportunities. Bonita loves working with the teachers developing curriculum for cohesiveness across all grades.
“Honestly, working in the education field is just as special to me today as it was the first day, I walked into a kindergarten classroom on the campus of Immaculata College. Although I was not pursuing a teaching degree, I volunteered in the primary school as part of my graduation requirements. I fell in love with the children and with teaching on the very first day! The classroom felt like home, and from that moment on, I knew that was where I wanted to be. The students were excited, enjoyed learning, and questioned everything—and I wanted to inspire them to find the answer to every question and solution to every problem.”
In her spare time enjoys reading, Shine Dance Fitness and watching HGTV.
